Coal to Oil InSitu
|
|
Technology: Born in Nazi Germany, the technology of converting coal
to oil. South Africa defeated the oil blockade and improved this technology.
Now it is practical to generate oil from otherwise uneconomical coal beds.
Potential: Shallow thin useless coal beds may now economically
produce oil in situ. Whereas the coal is converted underground, no processing
facility need be constructed. Excess heat results from this process, so the
environment need be cooled for optimal oil generation. The steam cooling can
generate electricity.
