The below seismic illustrates that the region is a foreland fold and thrust
belt. This fold and thrust belt has interferred with the eastern margin of
the Anticosti Basin. The lower package is the ancient shelf sequence which
subducted beneath the middle package. The middle package (found on the
Port au Port Peninsula) was thrust westward over the oil rich deepwater
sequence. Finally the uplifted shelf sequence rapidly eroded and deposited
its' unconformity with the recent Anticosti sequence. The Anticosti sequence
went on to deposit at the synclines' trough, up to the current seafloor.
