Newfoundland Oil Exploration

PETROLEUM STATUS

Newfoundland is awash with oil from coast to coast. Internally, oil exploration has not resumed after wells blew out with gas in the 1950’s. Newfoundland’s electricity demand has risen, necessitating burning oil. The nickel smelter-refinery, being built at Argentia, will raise excess demand for gas generated electricity.
Onshore our West Coast, Hunt’s Port au Port No. 1 flowed 1742 b/d from 3,460 meters. 1998 information release found oil source for Port au Port No. 1. Amoco's well at Parsons Pond is now testing oil. Newfoundland Off of our east coast Chevron has just announced that their Hebron well found 600 million barrels of oil, up from their previous claim of just 195 million barrels. The 1.5 Billion Barrel Hibernia oil field (whose platform is ahead of schedule and under budget) had it's first two wells producing oil at 60,000 B/D each! (The new Canadian record) Contracts are now being let to develop Terra Nova oil field.
A gas pipeline is planned to export gas from the giant reserves at Hibernia onto Nova Scotia. It will be laid offshore Newfoundland's Southern Shelf. That is exactly where seismic 'bright spots' indicate giant gas fields. Also Paleozoic oil may also be found on deeper structures. Some large companies are ready to bid cheap for these blocks. Novoco offers you the exploration data to get the best blocks when the gas pipeline is laid by.
